“Herbario Novo” is a project delving into the creative potential of botanical illustrations using machine learning algorithms. Historically, botanical illustrations served as the primary method for documenting plant species before the invention of photography. Although no longer used for scientific purposes, they continue to inspire contemporary artists.

The project employs advanced processing techniques and transfer learning to envision potential future transformations in plant forms. In this exhibition, the physical merges with the digital thanks to pieces belonging to both worlds: on the side walls, a series of prints specifically produced for the show, depict botanical visions from the .morphos series. In particular, two belong to the merging and depiction of autumn leaves - easily identified thanks to the bright, warm colours. On the front wall, the digital component of the show is showcased: Artificial Botany flow. II, an additional component of the .morphos series.
