In 2022, Artificial Botany has had a very large number of requests to be displayed in institutional exhibitions. In particular, Artificial Botany .morphos III has been included in the exhibition “Tales of Nostalgia” at the Misk Art Institute in Riyadh (KSA).
Curated by Marnie Benney and Alia Ahmad Alsaud, the exhibition featured twelve Saudi and international artists. The exhibition delves into themes of time, memory, and nostalgia, using emerging technologies to explore new possibilities and alternate narratives.
The exhibition reflects on how our understanding of time—past, present, and future—is constantly reshaped by collective narratives and individual experiences. It examines how the future is influenced by the interplay of memories and current perspectives, and how innovative technologies challenge and redefine our concepts of time. Artificial Botany in particular delves into this concept in its exploration of the ever-changing morphing of botanical shapes, on canvases that bridge the world of nature through the eyes of the machine. In particular, the concept of time is particularly important, as the work highlights with unnatural speed the constant movements and change of shape of botanical elements.
